THE 7700 ft² INDUSTRIAL SPACE WITH A NEW STORY TO TELL

Written by Jemma Finch

The Boiler House is our newest location for one of our events, and we wanted to share its interesting journey to having a new sustainable ethos and identity.

The Boiler House is a historical venue based on Brick Lane, a huge 7700 ft² industrial warehouse space with a new story to tell. You might have recognised it as the building with the famous Truman chimney scaling into the sky. Boasting East London's typical 17th Century industrial warehouse architecture, it's especially fitting that the building's history as a brewery boiler house, and hub of activity and creation, has come full circle to launching as an events space with progression and transformation at its centre.

“a huge 7700 ft² industrial warehouse

The Boiler House used to be a well known food market, every weekend they would host a plethora of food and beverage brands for the community to enjoy. This has been the case for over a decade, but as new trends for a more conscious lifestyle are becoming ever strong, they decided it was time to change. They have recently gone through a re birth and are putting action and innovation for social change at the forefront of the venue’s purpose. They have a dedicated online hub to complement an extensive events program, and have an aim to rewrite the narrative of today's newsfeed with a stronger focus to innovation within the sustainability scene.

This is where the building’s creative director comes into play. Juliet Kennedy has redesigned many of the Truman Brewery Buildings with new business ventures and saw an opportunity to assign The Boiler House with a new purpose, catering for the conscious events and markets that are heavily in demand from millennial and Gen Z consumers.

The Venue has achieved lots in terms of an awareness of the need to have a positive impact on community and economy. For example they subsidise wellness classes, thorough ‘affordable yoga' sessions with the Dalston social club. They are also growing an educational talk program with The Experimental Thought Co. In terms of assisting the general public they believe that free access to all of their markets are a key part of making sustainable living more accessible, which is why Juliet has made it free entry to the venue’s Conscious Market on weekends. “The Boiler House Market offers a space for people who care about the planet to connect, reflect and invest consciously in independent businesses striving to co-create a better and more sustainable world. Discover up to 50 forward-thinking food and retail brands every weekend, offering ethical and sustainable fashion and lifestyle goods alongside plant-based street food, drinks, an all-day DJ and more… Look out for workshops including repair labs, clothes up cycling workshops, health & wellness classes and our DIY vegan skincare class.” - The Boiler House, on their weekend markets.

Other than community services, their weekend market and new interest in sustainable living, our favourite detail of the space is the inside bar which has a long list of low waste cocktails, cocktails and hot drinks to enjoy, our favourite aspect of the menu is the choice to add CBD to any drink!

The Future of The Boiler House is an exciting one, we are excited to take over the space for this weekend’s Christmas Collective and to watch how this building flourishes in the future!
